UK developing digital driving licence
The UK's DVLA is working on a smartphone digital version of its driving licence.
Chief executive of the DVLA Oliver Morley shared a photo showing a "prototype" on an iPhone.
He says it will be "in addition to" the plastic card, not a replacement.
Apple Wallet already stores boarding passes, credit cards, debit cards, gift and discount cards. Payment information is already encrypted end-to-end and authorised with the user's fingerprint or passcode.
CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood said: "Security has taken a huge step forward to enable digital payments on phones, so the structure is in place for other secure uses, such as a digital driving licence.
