1000mph car to start running from 2017
Well actually it's 800mph in 2017 in order to gather data for the 1000mph attempt that should happen in 2018
The 13.5 metre-long jet engine powered car is an incredible piece of technology, uniting the best of engineering talent from around the world.
The 7.5 tonne, 13.5 metre, four-wheeled supersonic vehicle which is being built right here in Bristol, will be propelled by a Rolls-Royce EJ200 engine (the same one used in a Eurofighter Jetfighter plane) and an additional Supercharged Jaguar 5.0 V8 just to feed the hybrid rocket with propellant
Altogether, the Bloodhound's engines will generate 133,151bhp, which will help it in its attempt to break the 1000mph and set a new land speed record in 2018, which currently stands at 763mph (1,227km/h)
The Bloodhound SSC project is estimated to be worth a staggering £45 million.
